Team Guidelines For Joplin, Missouri

As the response effort is changing and moving into the rebuilding phase the needs for our volunteers is changing as well.

You will notice in our skill categories that we are looking for mostly construction related skills but please don't be discouraged from serving with us if you don't happen to have a construction background!!!

We still want you and can use you if you are willing to learn, we will endeavor to teach you the basic skills to be able to help us. Every weekend Habitat for Humanity builds hundreds of homes with volunteers, many of them do not have construction backgrounds, if they can do it then so can we :-)

We would prefer that each team brought someone (or more than one) with some construction skills to help lead and guide your team through whatever activity that you are assigned.

YOUTH TEAM GUIDELINES

We want to encourage youth teams to be involved however due to the nature of the type of work and services that we are attempting to provide we ask that each team please bring at least 2 responsible adults for every 5 youth included on the team; please ask Trent for clarification on this if you have any questions.

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE A RECENT (WITHIN FIVE YEARS) TETANUS SHOT.

Arrangements have been made with a sister congregation in Carthage that can house up to 60 volunteers at a time. There are two showers available there which can handle smaller groups, larger groups have permission to use the local YMCA's shower facilities free of charge. To make reservations please contact:

All volunteers are responsible for their own meals, transportation to Joplin and all other related expenses.

Since the situation in Joplin can change each day, please understand it is difficult to determine what the specific needs may be while you are here. Other needs will most definitely arise as this is disaster recovery. However, these are the needs that Immanuel has asked volunteers to address as of now.
