In order to better manage volunteers and resources, FEMA is finalizing a guideline on credentialing volunteers for large-scale disasters. The federal guidelines indicate that volunteers responding to a disaster should be trained and certified. LCC is providing training for Lutheran Early Response Teams (LERT) throughout our district. Should a disaster strike these teams would be put on call and may be asked to deploy in 72 hours or less to the disaster site.
This training will prepare team member for credentialing and will focus on the safety, work, and ministry of Lutherans as Early Responders.

| Walcamp Hosts LCC Chainsaw Training for LERT Volunteers |
Walcamp was buzzing, literally, with the sounds of many chainsaws as 47 people from 21 churches attended an LCC chainsaw certification training followed by a servant event on the property at Walcamp on Saturday, July 16. LERT volunteers are encouraged to get advanced training for disaster response. The chainsaw certification event is the first of several LCC has scheduled for the coming year. The staff at Walcamp was thrilled to have more than 25 trees felled and hauled away to be cut up for firewood. Ian Hunt from the Stihl Corporation presented the classroom training in the morning with the hands-on service taking place in the afternoon. LCC staff members Dianna Bonfield, Tim Kurth and Pete Imlah, along with Comfort Dog Tillie, helped organize the day.
