A Day in the Life of Gracie the Grade School Comfort Dog Print E-mail

Gracie’s day often starts by helping a preschool boy who has problems with separation anxiety. The first time Gracie heard the boy crying, "she sat down next to him and nuzzled her head beside him," Meyer says.

Before Gracie arrived on the scene, the principal would often spend 30 minutes each morning consoling the boy, but with his canine companion’s help, “he’s able to reengage a whole lot more quickly. If she hears somebody crying, and she’s here in my office, she will stand up, look at me and want to go.”

Comfort Dogs Bring Support to Belvidere Students - WIFR Channel 23 Print E-mail

Following up on the visit of the K-9 Comfort Dogs to Belvidere North High School on Monday, February 27, 2012, Stephen Johnson of WIFR Channel 23, the CBS affiliate in Rockford, Illinois, visited the LCC offices. LCC President Tim Hetzner was interviewed about the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry and our presence at the high school in the wake of an accident that claimed the lives of juniors Brenda Gutierrez and Thalia Arredondo. Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere invited LCC to help the community through this difficult time and our presence gained attention through social media and regular news outlets.

ABC 7 Chicago Visits LCC Office for Disaster Response Interview with Tim Hetzner Print E-mail
ABC 7 television reporter Stacey Baca brought a news crew to the LCC office in Addison on Thursday evening, March 1, as President Tim Hetzner made preparations to leave for Southern Illinois to assess tornado damage there (see our full story on the latest tornadoes). Stacey interviewed Tim last year following the disaster in Joplin, Missouri and called to ask about the LCC response to these latest tornadoes. Tim talked about our process for responding to disasters, as well as the work we do with the K-9 Comfort Dogs.
